SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. & SEATLLE, Wash. February 27, 2014 GenieMD is pleased to announce that is was selected as a finalist in the Box + Dignity Health Patient Education App Challenge.  With more than 150 applications, GenieMD has been chosen as one of five companies to advance to the final judging round with Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, Aneesh Chopra, former CTO, White House, Ted Maidenberg, General Partner, The Social+Capital Partnership and Richard Roth, Vice President, Strategic Innovation, Dignity Health.

In October 2013, Box, a cloud-based content and collaboration management platform, Dignity Health, the nation’s fifth largest hospital system and The Social+Capital Partnership, a Silicon Valley based venture capital, launched an app challenge to drive innovation in patient education. The contest challenged developers to build tools that deliver health information and engage patients in taking a more proactive approach to their health. The winning team will receive a $100,000 investment in the form of a convertible note and one month of office space and mentorship from The Social+Capital. The winners will also have the opportunity to present the product to Dignity Health’s leadership as a potential pilot project.

In order to personalize the content delivered to a patient, help enrich personal interaction and foster an environment where patients feel listened to and communicated with, GenieMD designed a solution to allow patients to consume, interact with, and assemble follow up questions for a care team. This solution also allows patients, their family members, and providers to engage in an ongoing dialogue over educational needs. It is designed to use Box’s cloud-based content and collaboration management platform on the backend.

The solution will be incorporated as features of the GenieMD personal health management application. This will enable the patient to take advantage of additional functionality such as combining these materials with their health history, medication list, and data from wearable devices and medical records, easily share this information with their support network and providers, and build task lists to support compliance with their ongoing treatment plan.

GenieMD also won the 2013 ONC Blue Button Co-Design Challenge.
